Anglican Communion global prayer diary reaches re-set point

13 September 2023

The Anglican Cycle of Prayer, which unites Anglicans around the world in praying for the same diocese or province each day, has re-set having reached the diocese of Zululand in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. This week, the cycle restarted with the Diocese of Aba in the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). Aba and Zululand are the first and last of the Anglican Communion’s 856 dioceses in alphabetical order.

Around the world, in churches, cathedrals and homes, Anglicans pray for a different diocese each day and on Sunday they pray for one of the 42 member churches in the Anglican Communion.

The Director of Communications for the Anglican Communion, Gavin Drake, is responsible for compiling the Anglican Cycle of Prayer. Mr Drake said: “the Anglican Cycle of Prayer is one of the unifying features of the Anglican Communion. Across cultures, continents, hemispheres and theological differences, Anglicans around the world unite each day in prayer and every one of our dioceses in all of our 42 member churches have their special day of focused prayer. The Anglican Cycle of Prayer has consistently remained the most popular page by far on the Anglican Communion website.”

The Anglican Cycle of prayer can be downloaded as a 44-page print-at-home pdf, with each month on a separate page, running through to Thursday 31 December 2026, when Anglicans will be praying for the diocese of Divine Hope in the newest Province of the Anglican Communion – the Igreja Anglicana de Moçambique e Angola.

It can also be downloaded as a spreadsheet with columns designed to allow the data to be incorporated into other publications in their own style. And, for the first time, the Anglican Cycle of Prayer is now available as CSV or iCal formats for importing into electronic calendars and diaries.
