Vision 36

Vision36 is a ten-year church planting and renewal project. It is based on a vision of ‘multiplication’ that invites every Anglican to grow as a follower of Jesus, and for churches around the world to plant or grow new congregations.

By 2036

The Big Idea

Vision36 is led by the Anglican Communion Commission for Evangelism and Discipleship (ACCED).

It was supported by a resolution by the Anglican Consultative Council at ACC-19 in 2026.

Affirming the Great Commission to ‘go and make disciples of all nations’, the council called on every member church, diocese and parish to ‘walk an extra mile’ from 2026 to 2036.

The vision is already alive in many places. Now it needs prayer, partners and support to take it forward.

01

Everyone

Everyone in our churches has grown as a wholehearted disciple of Jesus, rooted in Scripture and in their own context, and has helped someone else to grow too.

02

Every church

Every church has grown new, deeply rooted congregations, shaped by Safe Church principles of safety, respect, accountability and healthy relationships.

03

Every disciple and every congregation

Every disciple and every congregation has helped to transform their local community through the love of Jesus, working alongside other churches.

04

Every Member church, diocese and parish

Every Member Church, diocese and parish has played its part in planting or renewing one million congregations.

A bold vision

One million churches, one decade

Members of the Anglican Communion Commission on Evangelism and Discipleship presented Vision36 at the Anglican Consultative Council.

“A Communion-wide vision of living Jesus-shaped lives, in a Jesus-shaped church, for a Jesus-shaped world”

Vision36 follows the Season of Intentional Discipleship, which began at the Anglican Consultative Council in 2016 and finished in 2026. Vision36 will build on this, continuing to help people grow in their faith, but also encouraging people to plant and grow churches and congregations around the world.

Growing the vision

How can you get involved?

Vision36 follows a simple, organic process. Every Member Church is different, so each will find its own way through it.

Pray

Prayer is the foundation of Vision36. Pray for disciples to grow, for new churches to take root, and for those leading them. Religious and monastic communities are especially invited to join a global prayer movement for the vision.

Grow

You don’t need a title or training to begin. Read scripture with a friend, invite someone to explore faith, or mentor a newer Christian. Every disciple helping another is how Vision36 multiplies.

Work together

If you are a bishop, clergy member or lay leader, ask what Vision36 could look like where you are. Could your parish start a new congregation? Could your diocese set a budget, appoint a team and make a plan?

Growing the vision

How will ACCED help?

The Anglican Communion Commission on Evangelism and Discipleship (ACCED) is an international group that will support Vision36’s growth. It will prioritise:

Prayer

Build a global prayer movement, including religious and monastic communities

Accompaniment

ACCED will work with bishops, clergy and lay people who want to take part, sharing stories of good practice to build momentum. With the Inter-Anglican Standing Commission on Unity, Faith and Order (IASCUFO), it will draw out the Anglican theology that underpins the vision.

Resources

Working with the Commission for Theological Education in the Anglican Communion (CTEAC), ACCED will gather good training materials that assist churches in their planting plans.

Champion

Share the vision in their region of the Anglican Communion and inspire others to join in.

Training

ACCED will encourage regular regional training and peer support so that church planting can be repeated anywhere.

Online community

Create opportunities for Vision36 teams to meet online for encouragement and prayer.

Questions?

A ten-year vision (2026–2036) for the Anglican Communion to grow disciples of Jesus and to plant or renew one million healthy congregations worldwide.

The Anglican Communion Commission for Evangelism and Discipleship (ACCED) proposed it. The Anglican Consultative Council, one of the Communion’s four Instruments of Communion, affirmed it at ACC-19 in Belfast in 2026.

No. Each Member Church of the Anglican Communion is self-governing. ACC resolutions are passed to Member Churches for them to consider in their own setting. Vision36 is an invitation, and each church, diocese and parish decides how to respond.

It is ambitious. The Communion has tens of millions of members in more than 165 countries. If many churches each plant one new congregation, or are renewed, the numbers add up. The target is a sign of hope, not a quota.

No. A new congregation can meet in a home, a school, a café or an existing church building. It might serve a different language group, age group or neighbourhood.

Every congregation planted or renewed through Vision36 is expected to follow Safe Church principles of safety, respect, accountability and healthy relationships.

Vision36 encourages churches to work with other denominations in their communities. It also connects with JC2033, an ecumenical celebration of the 2,000th anniversary of the resurrection.
