Serving the life of the Anglican Communion

The Anglican Communion Office (ACO) is the official secretariat of the Anglican Communion – a worldwide network of Anglican churches, in over 165
countries. The ACO connects member churches, encourages global mission, fosters Christian unity, promotes ecumenism and amplifies Anglican advocacy.

The ACO also supports and facilitates the ‘Instruments of Communion’: The Anglican Consultative Council, The Lambeth Conference, the Primates’ Meeting and the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Assisting the Instruments of Communion

The ACO’s role is to assist the four ‘Instruments of Communion’ which are The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Anglican Consultative Council, the Primates’ Meeting, and the Lambeth Conference. Each work to foster unity in the Anglican Communion.

The ACO organises official meetings and assists cooperative work, which is central to the life and unity of the global Anglican Communion.

Meet the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, The Rt Revd Anthony Poggo

The Rt Revd Anthony Poggo is the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion. He leads the staff team of the Anglican Communion Office, who support the ‘Instruments of Communion’, encourage collaboration, and foster ecumenical and interfaith relations across the global church.

As an ambassador for the Communion, Bishop Anthony undertakes regular visits to Member Churches to pray for, encourage, and express solidarity with them. He was appointed in September 2022.

As secretariat to the Anglican Communion, the ACO liaises with Anglican member churches around the world and works to represent the rich diversity of a global family.
