History

British immigrants brought Anglicanism to South America in the 19th and there was strong work by the South America Missionary Society among the indigenous peoples throughout the century. The Archbishop of Canterbury handed over his metropolitical authority for the dioceses of the Southern Cone in 1974 and a new province – including Chile – was established within a decade. Chile became a separate province in November 2018.
