noting that the poverty and human deprivation in most parts of Asia (which is about 3/5 of humanity) is acute and deplorable, that South Asia (c. 1.2 billion people) has recently been declared by the UN as the poorest region in the world, displacing sub-Saharan Africa, and that there are at least 400 million people in South Asia who live below the acute poverty line;
urges the Western governments, Church bodies and aid agencies to give special attention to the economic needs of this region and to strive towards the eradication of this misery.
