Resolution 106
Baptism and Confirmation
Seeing that the local congregation shares in the responsibility for bringing a new member, whether infant or adult, into the full fellowship of the Church, the Conference regards it as desirable:
- that no unbaptized person should act as godparent;
- that at least one godparent should be a practising communicant of the Anglican Communion;
- that, seeing that parents or guardians are sometimes unable or unwilling to invite active Church people to act as godparents, Church people should be encouraged to offer themselves, whether as members of a sponsors' guild or in some other way, for definite service as godparent in suitable cases;
- that one or both of the parents of an infant should be permitted to act as godparent if otherwise eligible.
