The Ministry of the Church - The Ministry of Women
Under the sanction of the province, the bishop may, on the request of the parish priest, entrust the following functions to the ordained deaconess:
- to assist the minister in the preparation of candidates for baptism and for confirmation;
- to assist at the administration of Holy Baptism by virtue of her office;
- to baptize in church, and to officiate at the Churching of Women;
- in church to read Morning and Evening Prayer and the Litany, except such portions as are reserved to the priest, and to lead in prayer; with the license of the bishop, to instruct and preach, except in the service of Holy Communion.
