The International Commission of the Anglican-Orthodox Theological Dialogue met in Salisbury at Sarum College 12 - 16th October 1999

The dialogue between Anglicans and Roman Catholics has shown significant signs of progress on the question of authority in the Church. This progress can already be seen in the convergence in understanding of authority achieved by previous ARCIC statements

This report was presented to ACC-10 Meeting in Panama, October 1996. In response the ACC noted with approval the Agros Report.

Since Panama the co-chairs of the dialogues and the ecumenical officers of the Provinces have responded to the request for further developments internationally and locally. In August 1997, a small editorial group met at the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, USA to include these responses and edit this Report.

Christian engagement with people of other faiths goes back to the very origins of Christianity. The Christian faith was born in a plural environment and had to relate not only to Judaism and to "classical" Graeco-Roman religion but also to the various "mystery" cults of the Mediterranean world as well as state religions such as Zoroastrianism in the Persian Empire

The Common Declaration by Pope John Paul II and the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr George Carey

The International Dialogue between Anglicans and Methodists had its beginning in the Lambeth Conference of 1988. The invitation by the Anglican bishops to begin formal conversations was enthusiastically accepted by the World Methodist Council.

Lutherans and Anglicans, like Christians of many other traditions, have been engaged during recent decades in much debate about the nature of ministry - both the ministry of the whole people of God and that of specific ordained ministers. This debate was intensified by the publication in 1982 of the Lima document Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry (BEM), which intentionally raised many fundamental issues of ecciesiology, ministry and ordination

As we reach the end of ten years in the life of ARCIC-II it may be opportune to recall the words of Pope John Paul II and Archbishop Robert Runcie in their Common Declaration at Canterbury in May, 1982
