"Mary: Grace and Hope in Christ" is the 5th statement of the second phase of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC) and brings to completion the mandate the Commission was given when it began its work in 1983.

"Sub-group: The Degree of Faith that Exists between Anglicans and Catholics; Sub-group: Practical Recommendations for the Next Steps in the On-going Process of Ecumenical Reception; Sub-group: Visible and Practical Outcomes of Spiritual Communion with Proposals for Pastoral and Practical Strategies to Help the Two Communions, Especially in Local Contexts, to do Together Whatever is Possible in the Present Stage of Real but Imperfect Communion"

"Initial meetings at Lambeth Palace with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, and at the Vatican with Pope John Paul II and with officials of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, in discerning the mandate of the new commission"

This meeting of Anglican and Roman Catholic bishops from 13 countries, convened by His Eminence Edward Cardinal Cassidy and His Grace Archbishop George Carey, gathered at Mississauga, near Toronto, Canada, from 14-20 May 2000.

The dialogue between Anglicans and Roman Catholics has shown significant signs of progress on the question of authority in the Church. This progress can already be seen in the convergence in understanding of authority achieved by previous ARCIC statements
