A spokesman for the Anglican Communion said: “false claims are being made that the Church of England General Synod’s motion on Living in Love and Faith is binding on the rest of the Anglican Communion. This is categorically not true.
“At the Anglican Consultative Council meeting in Accra, Ghana, which began today, some delegates have informed staff from the Anglican Communion Office that people outside the meeting had told them that last week’s Church of England decision was a decision for the entire Communion. It wasn’t. It was a decision for England only.
“The 42 Provinces (Member Churches) of the Anglican Communion are autonomous and independent-yet-interdependent. There is no central decision-making body in the Anglican Communion. Provinces can make decisions only for themselves.”
