[L'Eglise Episcopal au Rwanda - Rwanda] The Anglican Church is running a peace building scheme codenamed: Peace Project, targeting 1,000 university students hailing from the province, according to Bishop Alexis Birindabagabo of the Eastern Province.

Birindabagabo said this last week during an exclusive interview at the Anglican Diocesan offices in Kayonza district.

He said the students from higher institutions of learning across the province are to be trained on peace building under the theme: "Aggressive Program for Peace Building".

This is going to be the second phase, following one that took place in December last year, attended by a cross-section of university students from the area. The enrolment for the current programme is underway.

"Our intention is to make the country rise again after passing through the 1994 mayhem that left the society in despair. The church is willing to join hands with the government in the unity and reconciliation process," Birindabagabo said.

He added that the project would enable the youths to engage in development activities based on social stability.

He said, "The church has already started the peace project and it's working hand in hand with the local leadership of Kayonza district for its successful implementation."

"They will be carrying peace messages through music and drama," the prelate said, and added the next peace conference for youth is to be held in December this year.
