August 13, 2005

[L'Eglise Episcopal au Rwanda - Rwanda] The province of the Episcopal Church of Rwanda has held an extraordinary diocesan secretaries' meeting at its headquarters in Remera.

The one-day impromptu meeting was aimed at defining the vision of the church insofar as holistic development is concerned. The meeting was chaired by the Episcopal national development head, the Rev. Augustine Ahimana, who told the audience that the time has come for the church to enjoy the fruits of development.

He advised the participants to engage in poverty reduction activities which would help fight poverty in Rwanda. Participants supported the idea and also vowed to do the necessary in a bid to attain Vision 2020 as the path that defines government's strategy for holistic development.

To note, the Diocese of Shyira in the hands of Bishop John Rucyahana is to open a bank called Opportunity International, and this bank will help pastors and the community at large to alleviate poverty. The Episcopal church has been at the forefront in building peace and fighting poverty across the country.
