Meeting to Strengthen Ties

[L'Eglise Episcopal au Rwanda - Rwanda] The Episcopal bishops and heads of the Mothers' Union as well as the leaders from AMIA held an extraordinary meeting in an attempt to strengthen ties.

The meeting took place in the Diocese of Shyogwe,in the outskirts of Gitarama town. The meeting put forward the point of finalising a theological college, which is being built in Kigali Ngali Province on the outskirts of Kabuga Town. The college is slated to start in January next year.

Issues regarding the way forward in terms of holistic development were discussed.

In another development, churches in Rwanda have set a peace plan with the aim of building peace in the whole region.

The action was sponsored by Saddleback Church from America, led by Pastor Rick Warren, who pledged to strengthen the churches in Rwanda by fighting poverty as well as stemming the tide of HIV/AIDS.

Rick is also to help in capacity-building for the benefit of the church and the nation. He further pledged to train church leaders as well as helping the government of Rwanda attain the Millenium goals for Development, as stipulated in Vision 2020 of the nation and the church. Rick also promised to hold another peace conference in 2006, this time in all parts of the country.

The Episcopal Church of Rwanda has been at the forefront of organising peace conferences and reconciliation workshops across the country.
