Thousands Attend Gahini International Convention
by Grace Mugabe
RWANDA 070802-1
August 2, 2007

[L'Eglise Episcopal au Rwanda - Rwanda] Following on from the gospel crusade in Shyira Diocese last week, thousands of saints have gathered for an international convention in the Anglican Diocese of Gahini in the Eastern Province of Rwanda.

The five-day convention, on the theme of effective evangelism, started on Wednesday 1st August and brought together delegates from the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Uganda, Tanzania and Congo. It was organized to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Gahini Diocese.

Addressing the masses of people from different countries, diocesan Bishop Alexis Bilindabagabo urged them to love God with all their hearts for the sake of entering into his Kingdom. He also told the audience to love one another to please God the Almighty:
"Love your neighbor as you love yourself. This would please God and usher more blessings." The bishop added that God loves every person.

In another address, Bishop John Rucyahana, the leader of the Anglican Diocese of Shyira, encouraged the Gahini community to confess their part in the atrocities committed in 1994, when a million innocent Rwandans lost their lives in the nationwide genocide.

He told the enthusiastic masses to emulate their forefathers in the Gahini area who, in the 1930s, started the missionary revival in the Great Lakes region. According to the records of the Rwandan church, this revival later spread beyond the country's borders in Africa and also to Asia and other parts of the world.
