COM Trust Office Settled Land Purchase

MELANESIAN MESSENGER 061101-7
November 1, 2006

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] The Church of Melanesia (Vanuatu) Trust Office has finally completed payment of the balance of the total land premium of 1,600,000 vatu for the 80 hectares of land, which was initially negotiated by the Diocese of Vanuatu some 10 years ago.

The land situated at Sara, East of Santo is a very fertile land and some contains plantations and virgin woodland.

In signing the agreement to lease and handing over cheques for Vt 400,000 and 55,000 vatu for the balance of the land premium and the first land rent to Mr. Jude Naru, the primary landowner, the Chairman of the Vanuatu Trust Board, The Rt. Rev Hugh Blessing Boe stated that the process of finalizing the arrangement has taken a long while since land lease agreement was initiated by the previous Trust Board to acquire land for agriculture purposes.

However, with the land premium now being completely purchased there will be tangible developments taking place on the church land including the establishment of other church institutions.

In response, Jude Naru thanked the Church for the final settlement of the long outstanding balance of the land premium and wish the church well in its endeavor to develop the land and make good use of it for the benefit of the Church and the surrounding communities around Sara.

With the outstanding issues being resolved plans are now underway for the COM Vanuatu Trust Office to have the land at Sara surveyed and registered under the COM (Vanuatu) Trust Board.
