[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] The Inclusive Communities Programme has kicked off. This is with the appointment of the Programme Manager, Ms Ollie Pokana in October 2004. She used to be employed by the Provincial Mothers Union. Also, renovations are continuing on the program’s office space at the Saints of Melanesia building where the Diocese of Central Melanesia is located. In the meantime, a short term consultant, Ms Lesley Hoaston is assisting with the project.
The programme is a project being implemented by the Melanesian Board of Mission in Partnership with AngliCORD and the Australian Board of Mission, two agencies associated with the Anglican Church of Australia. The Programme which will run through to 2007 is aimed at strengthening local capacities such as with youths, women and communities in Solomon Islands to direct their own development and secure access to basic services etc.
The programme is funded by AusAid (the Autsralian Government) against the backdrop of the social and economic turmoil that ravaged Solomon Islands.
