Government pledge to support Church

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Dr. Derek Sikua called on all Anglicans to rally behind their new leader the Most Rev. David Vunagi and grant him all the support and cooperation he would need in his role as the Episcopal Head of the Anglican Church of Melanesia.

He was speaking on the occasion of the enthronement of the fifth Archbishop of the Church at the St Barnabas Provincial Cathedral in Honiara last Sunday.

“My government values the close partnership that we currently have with all the churches in the country including the Church of Melanesia, and looks forward to continuing this close partnership”.

Dr. Sikua said he is confident that with the new Archbishops experience and background in the field of education, Archbishop Vunagi can assist the Church as it strives to help the government in providing better education services to the people he served.

“Above all, I look forward to the continuing support of our churches including the Church of Melanesia as we continue to strive for peace and reconciliation in our country”.

The Prime Minister said assured the new Archbishop of his governments support and cooperation as he takes on the helm of leadership in the Anglican Church of Melanesia.
