Let's build better youth for Christ

MELANESIAN MESSENGER 090409-2
April 9, 2009

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] “We all must teach, preach and work hard to produce obedient, more humble, gentle, peace loving and hardworking boys and girls in our communities and in our diocese,” said the Bishop of Malaita the Rt Revd Sam Sahu.

He said this as part of his teaching during his inaugural tour of the Diocese in the last three weeks.

“Young people today are branded as disobedient, liu (jobless) Kwaso (alcohol) and marijuana but we need to do more than just branding people as objects, we need to teach them to be true Christians and true Disciples of Christ.”

Young people he said need to be fed well with the Word of God which can help shape them to become what we want them to become.

“If we want positive development in our Church today, we must invest in young people by building their characters to be more like Christ.”

Good cultural values that are consistent with the teachings of the Gospel must also be taught as a foundation for positive upbringing of our young people he said.

Bishop Sahu stressed that teaching must start in the homes with family members before the Church and schools.

He encouraged the communities to pray hard and work hard and to rise up with a renewed vision, faith and commitment to build up the Church in the village, in the parish, the region and diocese through young people of today.
