[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] The Diocese of Malaita has unveiled its Statements of Vision, Mission and Core values for the next ten years.
Diocesan Bishop the Rt Revd Sam Sahu announced this during his inaugural tour of the Diocese recently.
He said the Mission of the Diocese is a balanced, holistic mission that encompasses spiritual, physical and social aspects of the Church including culture and the environment.
The Mission of the Diocese he said is to;
To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of God.
To teach, baptize, nurture new believers and produce true disciples.
To respond to human needs in loving service
To seek to transform unjust structures of society
To care for the environment.
The Bishop said this is the guiding principal of the work of the Diocese in the next decade.
He said love is the key in effectively exercising this mission in the Diocese.
There must be a true love for Christ and his Church. Through this, it will lead to a true love for mission.
Culture he said is the fabric of our society and good cultural values that are compatible with the teachings of the Gospel must also be taught and preached in the communities.
These values can help shape our mission if they begin with our very own people in the rural communities he said.
Bishop Sahu thanked the Diocesan Council for producing the Mission statement in February this year.
Diocese of Malaita is the largest Diocese of the Anglican Church in Solomon Islands in terms of its population that now stands at 50,000 people.
