Tsunami rehabilitation consignment heads to West

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] Five Anglican communities affected by the 2007 April tsunami in the Western province in Solomon Islands this week received latest consignment of supplies from the Anglican Church of Melanesia in Honiara.

The supplies worth more than one hundred thousand dollars is part of an ongoing rehabilitation programme by the Church for the communities of Rendova Harbour, Mandali, Foskei, Gizo parish and Fishing village.

A chartered landing craft LC Albatros left Honiara this morning to deliver the supplies to the respective communities.

The consignment include building and plumbing materials, water tanks, sanitation facilities, tools sago palm leaves household items and clothing.

Under this rehabilitation phase the Church is helping all five communities to rebuild their lives with reconstruction of 85 homes, 5 permanent church buildings and 2 semi permanent classroom structures for two communities of Rendova Harbour and Mandali.

Fishing village on Gizo island was also given an outboard motor engine and a fiberglass boat.
The assistance was made possible through the help of the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund (ERDF) of United States of America who have generously given SBD$127,000 towards the cause.

The church thanked ERDF for the help as well as other overseas partners and friends who have make donations to make aq difference in the lives of the once shattered communities.
