[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester presented two flagons to the Church of Melanesia Provincial Cathedral, St. Barnabas in Honiara, Solomon Islands on Monday this week.

The two vessels for holding wines at Eucharist worships were presented to the Dean of the Cathedral the Rev. Canon Sam Ata on behalf of the United Kingdom during an ecumenical State Service.

The service held at the Provincial Cathedral was organized by the Solomon Islands Christian Association to honour the Royal Highnesses visit marking the country’s 30th Independence anniversary.

The Solomon Islands Christian Association also presented a copy of the newly launched Pidjin Bible to the Duke.

The Melanesian Brotherhood danced to the sanctuary with the Bible carrying it on a traditional war canoe replica before it was presented to him by the Governor General Sir Nathaniel Waena.

The Church of Melanesia thanked the royal couple for presenting the sacramental silver wares on behalf of the United Kingdom.

His Royal Highness Prince Richard Alexander Walter George and his wife Birgitte van Deurs the Duchess of Gloucester left the country on Wednesday after a three-day visit.
