DOY signed partnership with Canberra and Gouldburn
May 7, 2008

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] The Diocese of Ysabel has now formalised their sister relationship with the Diocese of Canberra and Gouldburn in Australia with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 16th 2008.

The signing took place at the Diocesan Headquarters at Jejevo by the Assistant Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn, Bishop Allan Ewing and his counterpart the Diocesan Bishop of Ysabel the Rt Rev. Richard Naramana.

Bishop Richard Naramana said the signing of the MOU was a historical event and a step forward for the Diocese in having a partner within the Anglican Global family that will grow and share experiences together in doing God's Mission.

Bishop Allan Ewing describes it as a beginning of a new journey in which the two diocese begins as equals; a partnership in which the two dioceses meet in the name of Jesus Christ.

He said he would very much want see this relationship built on a foundation of love, care and respect.

The Bishops are hopeful of the benefits of the partnership when the two dioceses share their experiences in terms of mission outreach, theological trainings, and other social and cultural experiences.

A clergy from Ysabel under this partnership will be travelling to the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn in October this year to look at and discuss possibilities of training as well as looking into important areas that would assist their ministry together. At around the same time a youth group from Canberra and Gouldburn will be visiting Ysabel to also share their ministry with the people there.

On a parish level; Batemans Bay is looking at the possibility of establishing a partnership with the Buala parish in the Diocese of Ysabel.

The Parish of Batemans Bay is currently having a link with All Saints parish in Honiara in the Diocese of Central Melanesia.
