February 29, 2008

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] The biennial sports competition for the Church of Melanesia schools and institutions in Solomon Islands has now been set for June this year.

The Association of the Church of Melanesia Schools Institutions and Communities (ACOMSIC) sports programme was last year postponed due to academic related programmes for some schools.

The venue still remains at Selwyn College on west Guadalcanal. Two other sites in the area Vaturanga and Maravovo was also identified as satellite venues for selected sports.

The track and field events will be played in four categories. Super Senior is for BPTC Kohimarama, Melanesian Brotherhood and the Rural Training Centres. Forms 4 to 7 will be in the senior category and Forms 1 to 3 in the intermediate category. Primary students are placed in the junior category.

The competition will be in both track and field events. It is organised with the aim of fostering friendship and unity through sports, cultural activities and religious programmes among church schools and institutions.
The competition is expected to draw about a thousand competitors from five primary schools, four secondary schools, four rural training centres and two theological institutions. The competition, which started in 2003, is held every two years.
