February 29, 2008

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] Provincial and Diocesan heads of the Mothers Union in the Church of Melanesia are currently in Australia to attend a Special Regional Meeting of the organisation.

The meeting, held every ten years for all presidents, usually in a single venue, was for the first time zoned into three different regions of the world; Asia Pacific, Europe and Africa.

The Province of Melanesia came under the Asia Pacific group, which also includes Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. The Asia Pacific Region held its meeting at Toowoomba in Queensland in the first week of March.

The meeting is aimed at providing opportunities for Mothers Union Leaders worldwide to meet together to practice and explore the spirituality of the Mothers Union, and to share experiences, celebrate diversity of cultures, build relationships, identify goals and plan for the future.

The meeting is organized on common themes of daily worship and bible study and interactive and participatory programmes.

Among other areas, the meeting will focus on leadership, social marketing, communication, projects and social policy and advocacy.

Eleven participants from Melanesia attended the meeting. They include Provincial and Diocesan Presidents as well as three provincial workers from the Provincial Mothers Union office, Central Melanesia and Vanuatu.

A total of 93 delegates from 13 provinces will have parallel meetings in three different regions around the world.
