Mothers Urged to Reach Out with Love
November 23, 2007

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] Leaders of the Mothers' Union in the Diocese of Malaita have been challenged to take their responsibilities seriously and honestly by nurturing each other with love and serving actively with their whole life.

Speaking to open a week-long conference of the Mothers' Union leaders in the Diocese this week, Ethel Sigimanu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Women and Children's Affairs, said that as leaders they had an important responsibility of taking the organization to a new level. They should have a sense of ownership and responsibility for their organization and allow that to keep them diligently involved in its work.

She said that the theme of the conference, "God that will make all things new", was about leadership and challenged them about their obligation to serve and uphold their work within the organization.

"The Bible challenges us as followers of Christ to be committed and never be tired of doing what is right. Our theme calls for perseverance, determination, firmness in our decisions and urgency to act upon what is a priority to our lives."

The Permanent Secretary also said the theme spoke of honesty in the work they did as leaders.

"It talks about respect for others, respect for the opinion of others within the Mothers' Union, respect for those in other parishes and respect for our leaders."

She urged them to support each other as they worked towards achieving the Mothers' Union objectives.

The Conference was attended by about 100 leaders and members of the Mothers' Union in the Diocese of Malaita. It was held at the Diocesan Training Center at Airahu and ran from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 November 2007.
