Selwyn College Dedicates Chapel

MELANESIAN MESSENGER 070807-2
August 7, 2007

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] Selwyn College Princial Mr Thomas Rajan said the opening of Selwyn College new chapel would guide, care and protect the college community and uphold the college motto -- Unity and Faith.

He described the new chapel as the "spiritual nucleus" of the school that would help mould the younger generation into a Christian perspective.

Last Sunday the college opened its newly completed chapel building -- 16 years after its relocation from the old site at Nagilagu on north Guadalcanal to Maravovo on west Guadalcanal.

During those years, the school had been using its assembly hall for chapel services.

"Today, for the first time, the school has a place to worship the Lord with all its sanctity."

He said the college adopts the philosophy of late Bishop Selwyn, the founder of this esteemed institution, of True Religion, which could only be practiced by further strengthening our relationship with God.

"I believe the new chapel offers a pillar of hope and a source of inspiration to the spiritual well being of the staff and students of the school."

He thanked all those who had contributed towards the completion of the chapel.

"Without your support and obedience this day wouldn't be possible and colourful. The various effort that you put in daily this year towards this chapel is uncountable and praiseworthy," Mr Rajan told the thousands who gathered for the programme on Sunday.
