COM to have affiliated schools

MELANESIAN MESSENGER 070419-2
April 19, 2007

[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] The Church of Melanesia Education policy currently being implemented will see more schools engaged as affiliated COM schools in both Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

Under this policy schools with affiliated status will receive some form of assistance from the Church while remaining under the management and control of their own respective education authorities.

The Church has so far agreed and endorsed that three schools in Vanuatu will become affiliated schools of the Church.

They are Robin School at Lo Island on Torres, Sulua School on Maewo and Gamal Maua School on Pentecost.

It was anticipated that a community high school will be established in the Santo Mission Area to ones currently being run by the Church there.

Land acquisition process is soon to be pursued so that implementation plan can be drawn up.

Another three schools in Solomon Islands have been identified in the Diocese of Central Solomons.

They are in East Guadalcanal, Ngella and the new missionary area on Renbel.

And already the Church has entered into discussions with the diocese of Central Solomons, the communities concerned as well as their respective Education Boards to formally agree on the plan and make the schools registered as affiliated to COM.

Meanwhile work on secondary schools for the diocese of Temotu and Ysabel is expected to begin as soon as land problems are sorted out.
