[Melanesian Messenger - Melanesia] The Melanesian Brotherhood at Tabalia now has a new power machine that would help in tilling their land for farming at their headquarters on west Guadalcanal.
The diesel power tiller also known as hand tractor was purchased locally from funds donated by a member of the Companion of the Brotherhood in England.
Mrs Gill Gong of Liverpool donated some money for the Brothers last year specifically for farming project activities.
Assistant Head Brother Alphonse Garimae said of the money was already used for purchase of seedlings and other hand tools last year.
He said the new power machine would boost work on their farm as the current one is quite old and has since experienced recurring faults.
Brother Garimae said repairing the old tiller is quite expensive in the long run therefore they decided to purchase a new one instead.
He said the old one is quite smaller and does only half the job as the new one and so they are very excited about having the new machine.
As they prepare for the Brothers Great Conference in October this year this is just what they need in their farm to prepare for the biggest meeting of the Brotherhood.
The tiller was purchased at a cost of SBD$11,950.00 in Honiara on 3rd April 2007.
