Conference on AIDS

[Diocese of Mauritius - Indian Ocean] The Mauritius branch of Mother’s Union organised, in collaboration with S.A.V (Savoir Aimer et Vivre – an AIDS awareness ministry), on Saturday 04 June a conference on AIDS awareness.

This activity, which was held at the St Andrew’s church hall in Quatre Bornes, was attended by some fifty participants. The speakers were Dr Agness Chakowa, specialist in Dermatology and Rev Daniel Tyndall from the Oxford Diocese of the Church of England.

Dr Chakowa with his past experience in the AIDS department of the Ministry of Health spoke to the youth about the physical damages caused by the virus. He is very concerned about the AIDS pandemic in Mauritius. On the other hand, Rev Tyndall led the audience to an understanding of the scriptures and how these could be of help in our pastoral service to the victims of AIDS and their families.
