[Diocese of Mauritius - Indian Ocean] Her Excellency
The High Commissioner of South Africa
Port Louis
ďAll great things are simple and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honour; duty; mercy; hopeď
Sir Winston Churchill
Your Excellency.
We give thanks today to God Almighty for raising up in our generation a man whose legacy is of an inestimable value to the human race.
As we mourn the loss of Mr Nelson Mandela, the first black South African President, we rejoice of his contribution towards the uplifting of human dignity and as being an enabler so that South Africa becomes a place where Peace and Justice kiss each other.
For us Mauritians, we cherish in the depth of our hearts his visit to Mauritius. Nelson Mandela has inspired many of us and my hope is that we be, like him, instruments of love, justice and reconciliation.
I wish here on behalf of the Anglican Church in the Indian Ocean and the Diocese of Mauritius to present to the People, the President and the Government of South Africa our deepest sympathy at the loss of the Father of the South African Nation and the assurance of our prayers.
The Most Revd Ian Ernest, G.O.S.K
Bishop of Mauritius
Archbishop of the Anglican Church of the Indian Ocean
