[Diocese of Mauritius - Indian Ocean] The Lay Readers Retreat took place at the Foyer de l'Unité 17 - 19 June 2011. It was led by the Revd Dr Oliver Simon from UK , Director of Studies in the diocese of Mauritius. Bishop Ian was able to be present on the first evening. The theme of the retreat was "the renewal of our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus". We spent time on Friday evening sharing our own situations. On Saturday the focus was the Gospel of St Matthew - the liturgical gospel this year. Lay Readers were invited to consider how they might use the gospel in their own preaching and teaching. We also had a domestic session on Lay Reader matters including an introduction to the use of a Working Agreement. Sunday was Trinity Sunday so we reflected on the nature of the Trinity with the aid of the Rublev Icon of the Hospitality of Abraham before we celebrated the liturgy in the round in the chapel of the Foyer. The sermon had an unusual twist: participants were asked to contribute to a breaking open of the word. So we constructed the proclamation of the Word together. After lunch there was a time of feedback. Responses indicated that people had found value in the weekend and looked forward to regular get togethers in the future. The picture shows participants with the Director of the Training Centre, the Revd Colin Peattie on the front right and his wife Jane, the Centre Librarian front left.
