ANGLICAN CHURCH OF BURUNDI SAYS NO MORE SILENCE TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN

EAB PRESS 131212-1
December 12, 2013

[EAB Press - Burundi] The Anglican Church of Burundi joined this Sunday 8/12/2013 other churches in the country to rise up the voice against all forms of violence against women and children.
At Holy Trinity Cathedral, the service started with a special procession against violence that women are facing daily in Burundi. Children, young people, women and pastors took part to that procession.

Bishop of Bujumbura Diocese, Rt .Rev Eraste Bigirimana pointed out that the struggle against those violence must start in the families before reaching national and international level. The violence against women and children is a danger for humanity, added Bishop Eraste.

Through local Medias, he called the government to establish a firm strategy against gender based violence and the promotion of the children rights. Talking on behalf of the Anglican Church of Burundi, Rt Rev Eraste Bigirimana, said that Christians have to denounce violence against human rights especially those against women and children.

According to him, they also have to bring assistance to victims. Another issue to deal with is to introduce advocacy for the needy people. Those can be vulnerable people like children, women, or victims of gender based violence.
