Enthronement of the new Bishop of Winchester, ordinations and other recent news

[EAB Press - Burundi] NEW BISHOP ENTHRONED IN WINCHESTER DIOCESE, UK

The Archbishop, the Most Rev. Bernard Ntahoturi attended the enthronement of the Rt. Rev. Tim Dakin as the 97th Bishop of Winchester on the 21st April 2012. He was able to extend congratulations to the new Bishop on behalf of the Province. The diocese of Winchester, in the south of England has a Companion Link with the Province for the mutual support and sharing of insights and expertise as they engage in mission.

While in the UK Archbishop Bernard participated in the first Round Table on Burundi with partners at Lambeth Palace. He also attended the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans conference.

CHURCH AND COMMUNITY MOBILISATION PROCESS

Gitega diocese launched the CCMP approach to integral development in April. Sponsored by Tearfund UK it is designed to mobilize the Church to transform the community in all aspects of development using its own resources in conjunction with local and global partnerships.

Preaching at the inaugural service, Emmanuel Murangira, the Country Manager for Tearfund Rwanda spoke from 2 Kings 4 and urged the Church to be active and resourceful as it reaches out to the community around.

ORDINATIONS

On the 22nd April 2012 in Rumonge, Bujumbura diocese 6 pastors and 40 deacons were ordained by the Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Pie Ntukamazina. In his sermon the Rt. Rev. Martin Nyaboho, Bishop of Makamba diocese encouraged those ordained to proclaim the Good News to all. He reminded the congregation that sharing the Gospel is the mission of the whole Church.

MEDICAL SUPPLIES

Medical supplies and equipment have been received by Nyenkanda, Rumonge and Bitare health centres and Matana hospital for their HIV/AIDS testing centres. The Province is grateful to DFID through Christian Aid for making this possible.

FLAME INTERNATIONAL

Muyinga and Bujumbura dioceses hosted conferences facilitated by Flame International for 2 weeks from the end of April. Participants received teaching and ministry on various aspects of freedom from trauma, forgiveness, reconciliation and healing in order to be able to minister to others.

In October 2012 a team will lead a three-week training for Church leaders.

INTEGRATED HEALTH STRATEGIES

At the beginning of May Mathias Nkurunziza and Leonidas Niyongabo contributed to a consultation in Nairobi organised by Episcopal Relief and Development and Netsforlife to look at how integrated health strategies should be defined and strengthened with a view to ensuring the continuation and impact of programmes in Africa.

They were able to share the importance of the Church working with the local community to impact peopleís lives in the areas of malaria prevention and the fight against HIV and AIDS.
