[EAB Press - Burundi] NEGOTIATIONS
The Archbishop, the Most Rev. Bernard Ntahoturi, recently took part in a high level meeting of the government, the FNL group, civil society, religious confessions, and the international community that reviewed the implementation of the peace agreement between the Government and the FNL. Interviewed on national radio, the Archbishop congratulated the parties involved on the progress made so far and called on the international community to maintain its support to the country as the agreement continues to be worked out. “It is one thing to sign an agreement but another thing to translate it into action”, he said.

ENVIRONMENT
All the dioceses are involved in projects to protect and improve the environment. Just over 3 million trees were produced in 2008 and during a national environment week many were planted out throughout the dioceses.
The President of Burundi, on a visit to Bururi administrative Province, met with members of the environment club from the Lycée at Matana, a Church secondary school, and saw the nursery beds for fruit trees that are part of a project with Christian Aid.

ORDINATIONS
Bujumbura diocese recently ordained three priests and five deacons. Ten senior clergy were made Canons. The Rt. Rev. Sixbert Macumi, Bishop of Buye, encouraged them in his sermon to serve as shepherds of God’s people and to stand firm in the assurance that they are sent with the presence of Jesus.
