Voluntary Resignation

The Rt. Rev Duleep Kamil de Chickera, Bishop of Colombo

[The Church of Ceylon (E-P) - Ceylon] Bishop Duleep de Chickera has voluntarily resigned from the Bishopric of Colombo with effect from the 31st of December 2010. The Constitution of the (Anglican) Church of Ceylon requires bishops to voluntarily resign after ten years of ministry, or at the age of 65, whichever comes first. The former applies to Bishop Duleep. He completes ten years in May 2011, but has decided that the end of a calendar year is the most appropriate time to go.

He will continue to serve the Diocese of Colombo in Sri Lanka as the Metropolitan’s Commissary and Vicar General of the Diocese with effect from 1st January 2011 until his successor takes over.

He and his wife Geetha hope to spend a short sabbatical abroad thereafter in reflection and writing.
