[The Church of Ceylon (E-P) - Ceylon] A Festival of Dance and Drumming featuring the Ravi Bandhu Vidypathi Dance Troupe and the Hevisi Bands of Bishop's College, Ladies' College, St Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia and the School for Blind, Ratmalana will be held at the Open-Air Theatre in the Anglican Cathedral Premises at Bauddhaloka Mawatha (next to BMICH) on Saturday 14th June 2008 at 6 pm.
There will also be a few guest appearances. The event is co-ordinated by the management of the Nuga Sevena Open Air Theatre.
Admission is free and open to all.
The newly constructed open-air theatre in the Cathedral premises is built around a majestic banyan tree ('nuga' in Sinhala and 'aalai' in Tamil). The semi-circular stage is around the trunk of the tree and the tiered seating is under the shade of the tree, whose branches form a canopy over the whole theatre. Stage lighting is fixed on the roots, which in banyan trees reach up to the branches. It is a picturesque setting, creatively designed and unlike any other open-air theatre.
The Rt Revd Duleep de Chickera,
Bishop of Colombo
