CAPA Primates Message to Christians in Nigeria
CAPA 060309-1
March 9, 2006

[CAPA - Africa]

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ

We the Primates of the Council of Anglican Provinces in Africa (CAPA) meeting in Nairobi February 26-28 2006 feel concerned about the situation prevailing in your country. This is also going on in many parts of the world. We wish to reassure you of our love and prayers to sustain you in the present struggle. As Christians, we can never be without hope. It is easy to become hopeless but you and us believe that God Our Father has a plan for His world in which all mankind are to have adequate care and sustenance for their bodies, minds and spirits. Our lives are being threatened because of our faith and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Church locally and internationally has been called to be prophetic. She seeks to be a sign of demonstrating God’s Kingdom of power through love. This is our vision as the body of Christ whose hope is founded in God.

We are called to stand and be different. Together with you we will demonstrate our willingness to sow peace in the world (“Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called sons of God” Matt.5:9). Let us call for a non-violent approach, requesting for mutual approach and freedom for all. As the church here in Africa let us show the light of Christ through practical examples.

We as people of God proclaim freedom which is the gift of God to deliver the world from bondage of sin to service of each other. Such freedom is lived through our submission to the power of love revealed in Christ our Lord.

Brothers and sisters let us fight the good fight through the redeeming power of love of Jesus Christ our Lord and Master.

We express our condolences to those who have been affected through the loss of lives and property.

We assure the government of Nigeria of our prayers as you seek to restore peace in the troubled parts of the Nation.

With every blessing
