CAPA 050920-2
September 20, 2005

[CAPA - Kenya] Retired Archbishop Manasses Kuria of the Anglican Church of Kenya died yesterday, 19th September 2005, at a Nairobi Hospital.

He woke up well from his home and proceeded for a routine session of dialysis at the Upper Hill Health Centre, where before long he felt dizzy and rather unwell. He was rushed to Mater Hospital where he passed on about ten minutes after arrival. He had a jovial day on Sunday 18th September, celebrating a baptism of a family member at the All Saints' National Cathedral and took many photographs with his immediate and extended members of his family.

The Most Rev. Dr. Manasses Kuria was elected the second Archbishop of the ACK, succeeding the Most Rev. Festo Olang’ in 1980. He diligently and selflessly served the church for 16 years until 1994 when he retired. In 1996 The Most Rev. Dr. David Gitari was elected the third Archbishop to replace him.

CAPA sends its condolences to the family, friends and the entire Anglican Church of Kenya. May God rest his soul in eternal peace.

The Anglican Church of Kenya has organized a memorial service to celebrate the life of beloved Archbishop Kuria on Thursday, 22nd September 2005 at the All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi beginning at 2.00 p.m.
