CAPA 050714-4
July 14, 2005

[CAPA - Kenya] The Anglican Church of Kenya has blamed politicians for the violence in Marsabit District and urged the government to apprehend the culprits.

Speaking during the press conference held at ACK offices, the Archbishop of Kenya, Benjamin Nzimbi condemned the acts of banditry on innocent Kenyans and called on the government to beef up security and arrest the perpetrators of this heinous act.

So far, the Tuesday (12th July 05) massacre has claimed 76 lives according to the Kenyan Police records.

Bishop of Kirinyaga Diocese Daniel Munene, whose jurisdiction covers Marsabit District, and the Provincial Secretary, Bishop William Wako, who comes from the area, also condemned the killings. Meanwhile the Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki condemned the barbaric attack and appealed for calm as the government tracked down the perpetrators.

We at CAPA appeal for prayers during this period of great pain and loss to family and friends of the deceased and injured.
