[CAPA - Rwanda] The Mothers Union of the Episcopal Church of Rwanda has received a pat on the back from the Archbishop of Rwanda, The Most Revd Emmanuel Kolini, for becoming a worthy role model for families in Rwanda.

Archbishop Kolini said the Mothers Union had become “a mirror for the nation because they have managed to promote the Christian way of life through teaching Christian marriage to the Rwandan society”.

He said this was particularly encouraging because Rwanda was still recovering from the effects of the genocide that killed close to one million people. “This is the time that love has to be demonstrated fully in the family, in the community and in the nation,” he said.

The Primate was speaking when he opened a two-day Mothers Union conference in Kigali, Rwanda. Over 300 women from all over the country participated at the conference.

The archbishop said women had the potential to impact their children, adding that if children were brought up to love their neighbours, then there would never be a repeat of the violence that the country witnessed ten years ago.

Speaking at the same conference, the Bishop of Cyangungu, Rt Revd Geoffrey Rwobusisi, said if women were fully mobilised, they held the key for development in the society because of their persistence and focus.
