[CAPA - Kenya] An Africa Anglican Theological and Doctrinal Commission will be established to guide the Anglican Church in Africa in developing its own centres of theological excellence, Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa (CAPA) Chairman, the Most Revd. Peter Akinola has said.
The commission’s terms of reference will include critically examining various topical theological issues and advising the church accordingly.
CAPA’s 12 Primates are scheduled to meet early this year to discuss further the proposal among other issues facing the communion.
Archbishop Akinola was speaking during the first joint CAPA management meeting since the election of the council’s new officials in September last year. The meeting was held at the Anglican Church of Kenya Guest House in Nairobi and brought together members of the standing committee, board of finance and management.
The board paid tribute to the steady growth of CAPA, noting that its programmes of bishops training, communications and HIV/AIDS were impacting the church in Africa significantly. They called for more support from the provinces and thanked the partners who have consistently supported the programmes.
The meeting also approved CAPA’s five-year strategic plan that includes a redefined vision and mission.
