Hostels Doing Well; Cathedral Building Moving Slowly

ANTSIRANANA 060516-3
May 16, 2006

[Diocese of Antsiranana - Indian Ocean] The work of the boys’ hostels in Antsiranana and that of the girls’ hostel in Daraina is proceeding well.

The Bishop Keith Benzies Memorial Chapel will hopefully be inaugurated at the end of this year in the compound of the Mary Tindall Girls’ Hostel compound in Daraina in the rain forest area.

The milk-feeding program for malnourished children is being followed through.

The schools in the Ampanefena area are also going well but for the limited resources. The Bishop of Antsiranana, the Right Rev Roger Chung, said: “We are grateful to USPG, and CNECPI and to everyone else for their valued ongoing funding of these projects.”

Work on the new St Matthew’s Cathedral is moving slowly.

A parish in Bega, Australia, where the bishop of the diocese, the Right Rev Roger Chung Bishop Chung, met former short-term SOMA missionaries in Madagascar, has offered to donate the roof of the cathedral.

The total cost of the cathedral building will be about 25,000 English pounds.

“I hope to receive more help from generous sources,” said Bishop Chung, “as this faith project can only be completed with God's favour upon the mission work here in northern Madagascar.

“We pray that this will be fulfilled for the Greater Glory of God. Please pray for us and support us where possible.”
