Theological Education Expert Visits Diocese
May 16, 2006

[Diocese of Antsiranana - Indian Ocean] The Diocese of Antsiranana has had a visit of the theologian coordinator for Theological Education by Extension (FBTM), Mr G Florigny for the Francophone African countries.

Archbishop Mgr Ian Ernest, Primate of the Province of the Indian Ocean, has agreed to encourage the setting up of a Theological Education by Extension Centre in Antsiranana Diocese. Bishop Roger Chung Po Chuen was chairman of TEE-FBTM in Mauritius before he moved to Madagascar as Bishop in 2003.

During his time in northern Madagascar, Mr Florigny promoted the TEE courses in the two Benedictine houses in Mahitsy and in Joffreville, led training sessions for all the clergy and evangelists at St Michael’s Church, Ambilobe, and also taught the seminarians of the Grand Seminaire Paul the Sixth in Antsiranana.

Mgr Michel Malo, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Antsiranana, expressed great interest in the TEE courses, which he requested for his own diocese.

Bishop Chung is hoping to have three centres for the TEE in Antsiranana Diocese: one at the central office at the Canterbury Educational Centre in Antsiranana; one at the Mgr Keith Benzies House in Ambilobe and the third at St Augustine’s Centre in Sambava. “We pray that the funding for that will also come through,” he said.

He added that next year's visit of Mr Florigny will include other Protestant Churches in Madagascar “for the sake of ecumenical cooperation in fulfilment of Jesus’ prayer that we may be one in Him.”
