[Diocese of Antsiranana - Indian Ocean] The Parish of Nosy Be is planning to extend its church, start a kindergarten school and reach out to tourists.
The Bishop of Antsiranana, the Right Rev Roger Chung, visited the parish recently to conduct confirmations. Fifteen people were confirmed during the service and there were 12 baptisms.
The Church of St Joseph is covered with sheets of galvanised iron but the walls are made of ravenal leaves. The Church committee is planning to extend the church by nearly nine metres. There is also a project to start a kindergarten school on the church premises. The church has already purchased building materials.
The parish is on the island on the west coast of Madagascar which is most suited for tourism. St Joseph’s also wants to welcome tourists and is working hard to make the church setting more welcoming.
The Diocese is hoping to celebrate the extension of the church on September 3 this year and to give all the encouragement needed to help the Rev Felix to achieve the goal.
Mrs Patriciat Karimo, the President of the Diocesan Mothers' Union, is playing a key role in activating the project. She is a parishioner of St Joseph’s.
