Bishop Chung Opens Week of Unity

ANTSIRANANA 060119-1
January 19, 2006

[Diocese of Antsiranana - Indian Ocean] The Week of Unity in the Malagasy province of Antsiranana started with an opening service at 6.30 pm on Wednesday January 18 in the Anglican Cathedral of St Matthew.

All the leaders of the main churches were present: the Roman Catholic Archbishop, Mgr Malo, Pastor Rabevitasaina of the FJKM Protestant Church and Pastor Robelison of the Lutheran Church.

In his welcoming address, Bishop Roger Chung opened the week by issuing a challenge for the renewal of personal faith. He said unity was a sign of the maturity of the people of God.

During this coming week, on each day one Church will witness to the journey of unity between the fragmented churches of the Body of Christ.

Prior to the week of unity, the Ecumenical Board of Antsiranana, known as the FFKM, met the Governor of the Province, His Excellency Mr Jacqui Tsiandopy, and presented him with the complete new translation of the Bible in the Malagasy language, the DIEM (Dikanteny Iombonana Eto Madagasikara).
