ANTSIRANANA 090221-1
February 21, 2009

[Diocese of Antsiranana - Indian Ocean] Bishop Pierre Whalon and his wife Melinda arrived in Reunion Island from Paris on Friday 20th Feb. The Province of the Indian Ocean Provincial Synod which met in Antsiranana in Feb 2007 asked Bishop Roger Chung Jaomalaza to do the follow up of the Church planting in Reunion Island. Bishop Pierre Whalon who is also the President of the Network of Francophone Anglicans met Bishop Roger Chung at the Lambeth Conference 2008 and agreed to give a boost to this common Mission Church Planting project. Archbishop Ian Ernest also gave his full support for this joint Mission venture as Reunion is a Territoire d'Outre Mer DOMTOM of France. The legalisation of the Episcopal - Anglican Church in Reunion needs to be officialised so that the Mission uplift can operate with confidence and recognition. The Mission Work is now set on rails with the visit of Pierre Whalon.
