Bishop Roger Chung Jaomalaza visits King's School in Canterbury founded by Henry VIII.
February 1, 2008

[Diocese of Antsiranana - Indian Ocean] Bishop Roger Chung Jaomlaza was invited to spend a week at King's School Canterbury to speak to the students during the pre-lentern season. Reverend Fred Arvidsson, senior chaplain, prepared a full programme for the visit. The new headmaster, Mr Nicolas Clements, who began his duties in January 2008 will undoubtedly bring newness to the life of the school. The school has grown to a student population of over 800 pupils. King's School was founded by King Henry VIII.

As the Diocese of Canterbury is linked with Madagascar , this invitation was made to further the relationship between the partners in mission. Bishop Graham Cray of Maidstone and a team visited the Diocese of Antsiranana last July 2007 to inaugurate the new catherdral of St Matthew in Madagascar. .

Bishop Roger spoke about the need to be obedient to God's calling using the example of Joshua who entered the promised land. He also spoke on the need to pursue the virtue and excellence of hope, faith and love as we read in 1 Corinthians 13.

A confirmation service for 70 students presided by the Rt Rev Stephen Venner Bishop of Dover , took place on 3rd Feb at the Canterbury Cathedral where Bishop Roger Chung read the Gospel.
