Ibrahim Hamba commissioned as evangelist-pastor
[Diocese of Antsiranana - Indian Ocean] Even with the recent devastation of the major towns of the region, the work of mission and evangelisation in the Diocese of Antsiranana has not decreased. In the Ankarana, northern Madagascar, the village of Morafeno has seen the planting of a new mission church called St David's.
After two years of ministry in this remote village, the missionary Revd David Hamilton has been able to forge strong ties of friendship with the people, who speak a different dialect from that of the capital city of Antananarivo. With the help of Archdeacon Alphege Rakotovao and other evangelists of the Ambilobe district, the mission has witnessed growth and favour.
The new St David's Church is a small village church built entirely of corrugated iron sheets. At its inauguration it was packed to the brim and overflowed with all the guests from other surrounding villages.
Also at that occasion, Bishop Roger Chung Jaomalaza commissioned a new evangelist-pastor, Mr Ibrahim Hamba, to sustain the ongoing work. Ibrahim Hamba is a Moslem convert who attended a Roman Catholic school in Ambilobe when he was young, but then had no opportunity to take part in church activities. With a new mission church in his village, he gladly obeyed the call to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the world, for the welfare of all.
Pray for the extension of the mission work in this place. The new church will also be used as a school in the near future.
