Senior Officials Help Inaugurate "Ruth" Project Boutique

[Diocese of Antsiranana - Indian Ocean] Senior officials of the Anglican Communion visited the Diocese of Antsiranana during the inauguration of a sales and refreshment boutique built by the diocese's Ruth project.

The visitors included the Secretary-General of the Anglican Communion, the Revd Canon Kenneth Kearon, Mrs Jennifer Kearon, and the Revd Canon Chad Gandiya of the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel.

The new facility has been built in part of the first cathedral of the diocese, situated in the commercial area of the town of Diego Suarez. It is thus ideally placed to sell refreshments to tourists. The foundation stone of the shop was laid last year by Mrs M Pye, with Bishop Roger Chung Jaomalaza. A new cathedral is being built a kilometre away in a new location in the Anglican Church compound.

The boutique was inaugurated by Mrs Jennifer Kearon and Mrs Maud Patten, the provincial president of the Mothers' Union, together with Archbishop Ian Ernest, Mrs Alice Chung Po Chuen, honorary president of Ruth, Mrs Marie Jeanne Befeno, the president of the project, and Bishop Roger Chung Jaomalaza.

Members of the Ruth project had presented a special song during Sunday worship. They also gave gifts of crafts and embroidery products to the guests. The ladies, who are empowering women in the diocese, were greatly encouraged by the affirmative words of Canon Gandiya and Canon Kearon.

The Mothers Union were the first to initiate the Ruth project and CNECPI AUSTRALIA were the first to sell its products. Improved communication has enabled the diocese to find materials and facilitate more sales of Ruth products.
