Standing Committe Members

Abp Justin Welby(President)

Justin Welby is the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury, Metropolitan of the Province of Canterbury and Primate of All England, offices he has held since early 2013. He is also a Focus for Unity for the three Instruments of Communion of the Anglican Communion, and is therefore a unique focus for Anglican unity. He calls the once-a-decade Lambeth Conference, chairs the meeting of Primates, and is President of the Anglican Consultative Council.


Bp James Tengatenga (Chair)

James Tengatenga has been Bishop of Southern Malawi since 1998 and is a member of the Anglican Consultative Council and of the Standing Committee. He also represents the ACC on the Board of St. George’s College, Jerusalem. He was elected as ACC Chair in 2009 and therefore acts as Chair of the Standing Committee.


Canon Elizabeth Paver (Vice-Chair)

Elizabeth Paver is a lay canon of Sheffield Cathedral, a former member of the Panel of Chairs of the General Synod of the Church of England, and chair of the Board of Mirfield Theological College, and was elected as vice-chair of the ACC in 2009 and is therefore Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee.


Bp David Chillingworth (Primates’ Standing Committee member)

The Most Rev David Chillingworth, bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane, elected Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church in June 2009, this will be his first standing Committee meeting.


Abp Paul Kwong (Primates’ Standing Committee member)

The Most Revd Paul Kwong is the second Archbishop and Primate of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui and Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island. He was elected and consecrated the bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, on December 30, 2005. He was elected the Archbishop of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui on February 3, 2007.

Abp Daniel Deng Bul Yak (Primates’ Standing Committee member)

Bp Katharine Jefferts Schori (Primates’ Standing Committee member)

The Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori, previously Bishop of Nevada, is the twenty-sixth Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church. Jefferts Schori was elected at the 75th General Convention on June 18, 2006 and invested at Washington National Cathedral on November 4, 2006. Dr Jefferts Schori’s first ACC meeting was in Jamaica in 2009 and her first Primates’ Meeting was in 2007.


Bp Ian Douglas (ACC appointment)

The Tr Revd Dr. Ian T. Douglas was ordained and consecrated t on April 17, 2010 as the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut. The Episcopal Church appointed him to attend the ACC-14 in Jamaica and it was here he was elected as a representative on the Standing Committee.

Currently Bishop of Bujumbura. Appointed to the Standing Committee at ACC-15
